Portraits  in oil

"I have always found portraits where the subject is looking straight at you a little disconcerting! When a person is lost in their own world, I find they present a more fascinating subject to draw or paint. I'm also very interested in the contrast between using traditional drawing techniques and materials, with the use of compositions that have a more contemporary feel. I often use verses from the Bible and Biblical imagery, which while personal and deeply felt, are also a nod to the illuminated manuscripts of the past."
